sandra samahaI create art based on the world in which I live, the things I see and to which I have a strong viseral reaction. Having always loved the outdoors, I am rooted to my environment whether I am in California or in New England. And when I travel, foreign landscapes, architecture and people challenge me and are fodder for my art.
Telling stories, as a reflection of life in the early 21st century, is the goal of my work. Rich patterns, designs, textures and colors appeal to me, such as the designs found in quilts or Oriental carpets, both of which have influenced my collage work. In my recent paintings, I attempt to limit and order images, as a means of directing the viewers eyes to most effectively tell the story of atmosphere, time and place, that both illustrates the landscape of our time and effectively transcends it. |
